Settings

Customize HintMint to match your workflow. From audio configuration to privacy controls, every setting is designed to give you full control over your meeting assistant.

App Preferences

The Settings panel is your command center for personalizing HintMint. Access it from the gear icon in the top-right corner of the app or use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + , (macOS) or Ctrl + , (Windows).

  • Launch on startup -- automatically open HintMint when your computer starts
  • Default meeting mode -- choose your default role (Sales, Recruiting, Consulting, or Executive)
  • Language preference -- set your primary language for transcription and AI responses
  • Auto-connect -- automatically detect and join meetings from your calendar

Audio Input Selection

HintMint captures meeting audio through your system audio output, so it hears exactly what you hear. You can also configure a microphone input so HintMint can distinguish your voice from other participants.

Configuring Audio Sources

Open Audio Settings

Navigate to Settings > Audio to see all available input and output devices on your system.

Select your microphone

Choose the microphone you use during meetings. This helps HintMint identify your voice for speaker labeling.

Verify audio levels

Use the built-in audio level meter to confirm HintMint is receiving audio correctly before your meeting begins.

For the best transcription accuracy, select the same microphone you use in your meeting platform. HintMint uses your mic input to separate your voice from other speakers.

Notification Settings

Control when and how HintMint communicates with you. Notifications can be customized to avoid distractions while still keeping you informed about important events.

  • Meeting reminders -- get notified before upcoming meetings with pre-call briefs
  • Coaching alerts -- choose how prominently coaching suggestions appear during calls
  • Post-meeting summaries -- receive a notification when your meeting notes are ready
  • Sound effects -- enable or disable audio cues for key events
  • Do Not Disturb -- temporarily silence all notifications during focused work

Appearance

Customize how the HintMint overlay looks and behaves during your meetings. These settings ensure the overlay fits naturally into your screen layout without interfering with your meeting platform.

Overlay Position

Choose where the HintMint overlay appears on your screen. You can snap it to any corner or edge, or freely drag it to a custom position. The overlay remembers its position between sessions.

Opacity

Adjust the overlay transparency from fully opaque to nearly invisible. A lower opacity lets you see through the overlay to your meeting content, while higher opacity makes text easier to read.

Font Size

Scale the text size in the overlay to match your preference and screen resolution. Choose from Small, Medium, or Large presets, or set a custom size.

The overlay is rendered using a special compositing layer that is invisible to screen sharing. Your meeting participants will never see the HintMint overlay, regardless of your appearance settings.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Speed up your workflow with keyboard shortcuts for common actions. All shortcuts can be customized from the Settings panel.

  • Toggle overlay visibility -- quickly show or hide the HintMint overlay
  • Ask HintMint -- open the prompt bar to ask a question mid-meeting
  • Bookmark moment -- flag an important point in the meeting for easy reference later
  • Toggle transcription -- pause or resume live transcription
  • Cycle coaching mode -- switch between role-specific coaching profiles on the fly
You can reset all shortcuts to their defaults at any time from Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts > Reset to Defaults.

Data & Privacy Settings

HintMint is built with privacy at its core. All audio processing happens locally on your device using our proprietary LLM -- no third-party AI services ever receive your meeting data.

  • Local processing -- all transcription and AI analysis runs on your machine
  • Data retention -- choose how long meeting transcripts and notes are stored
  • Auto-delete -- set transcripts to automatically delete after a specified period
  • Export before delete -- optionally export data before automatic deletion
  • Analytics opt-out -- disable anonymous usage analytics if preferred
Reducing data retention periods will permanently delete older meeting records. Export any important data before changing these settings.

Account Management

Manage your HintMint account, subscription, and connected services from a single place.

  • Subscription plan -- view your current plan and upgrade or downgrade as needed
  • Connected calendars -- manage Google Calendar and Outlook integrations
  • Team settings -- configure shared preferences for your organization (Team plan only)
  • Sign out -- securely sign out of HintMint on this device
  • Delete account -- permanently remove your account and all associated data
